Fletcher Moss - Chronicles of Cheadle

Stanley Hall, as may be seen on the accompanying photograph is dated 1662. It was bought by the Society of Friends in 1786 for £1,200 from Elizabeth Mulliner, and has remained in their possession ever since. It is on the borders of Cheadle Bulkeley and Handforth, and adjoining what was probably an open space at one time, named Stanley Green. I have imagined that that the name may have been derived from John Stanley, the son of Sir John, for when his mother married Sir Urian Brereton for her second husband, and they built Handforth Hall, he would naturally expect to have a house of his own out of the estates.

The Fletcher Moss book 'Chronicles of Cheadle' was originally published in 1894, above is an extract relating to Stanley Hall
