Bringing new life to Hall
Stanley Hall was first sold to the Society of Friends in 1786 by an Elizabeth Mulliner. The cost - £1200.
In a book entitled “A History of the Old Parish of Cheadle”, author Fletcher Moss says of the Hall:
“I have imagined that the name may have been derived from John Stanley, the son of Sir John, for when is mother
married Sir Urian Brereton for her second husband and they built Handforth Hall, he would naturally expect to have
a house of his own out of the estates.”
Whilst it is unoccupied, vandals have smashed the windows of the Hall, and a squatter broke in and tried to light
a fire in one corner, but, strangely enough, little real damage has been done. Mr Halimi has, however, taken the
precaution of boarding up the windows.
“I do not want to re-sell or let the house,” said Mr Halimi, “but until permission to extend the rear comes through,
work cannot begin in order to make the place habitable for my family. I think Cheshire County Council are looking favourably
on my architect's application. If so we could possibly move in within a year.”
Cheshire County Council however, have not yet received the correct forms of application, which were returned by the
East Division in Wilmslow to Cheadle and Gatley Council.
A spokesman said: “We cannot know what decision will be taken until the correct forms have been submitted.
I presume Cheadle and Gatley Council have told Mr Halimi's architects of the reason for the hold-up.”
